Fredrick Douglass described in his autobiography the way slave owners and business owners would play the black slaves against the poor white workers at the expense of both groups. This dynamic echos today with regard to the relationships between white male workers and black and Latino workers and women. Both Dems. and Repubs. are fully committed to keeping wages low to maximize the returns for themselves and there corporate masters.
Sorry, but I have a pet peeve. And that is that apparently the only way we can get people to agree to help men is if we pinkie-swear promise it won’t affect women.
Women already have been given SO much. The idea that if you happened to respond “well, no, sorry, we don’t have unlimited resources, so yes, we may have to reduce programs for women in order to create needed programs for men” and that people would respond “well, sorry, no deal, men can suck it” really shows people’s true colors.
Men need help. Period. People should respond to that need on the simple fact that men need help. It should not be contingent.
So men had a head start, and we are still debating rather women should have agency over their own bodies. The equal rights amendment was never ratified because we lacked the political will to pass it. Men think women should work just as many hours as men, make less pay for the same work AND take care of the home and kids. Women simply don't need the aggravation. And our safety is at risk, all the time, because men think they can do whatever they want...and often they can... without consequences.
They can give lip service to Men's isues, but will the party of angry nihilistic queer-palestine-sex-change-for-children-vax-worship actually allow them to do real moderation and common sense? I hope not.
I dare say some Democrats are. They can succeed to this degree: they can make themselves noticeable to the party, and then required to repent and apologize abjectly and frequently, or be expelled.
FDR and JFK would be aghast at what passes for policy in their beloved Democratic Party. Although both were upper class they understood that victory for their party depended on working class voters. Current party leaders distain the “deplorable” and “racist” members of the working class.
A laundry list of things for Democrats to keep and to dump if they ever want to win again nationwide.
Keep a woman’s right to choose for the first trimester. Dump abortion until birth unless the mother’s health is at risk or the fetus is not viable.
Keep a concern for climate change and grow nuclear power. Dump intermittent, unreliable renewable energy.
Keep and develop new effective vaccines. Dump vaccine mandates.
Keep equality of opportunity for all. Dump equity of results based on discriminating against men, whites and Asians in a futile attempt to compensate for past discrimination against women and blacks. Recognize that D.E.I. Is unconstitutional.
Keep the protection of gay and lesbian rights. Dump men in women’s sports, private spaces and prisons. Oh, and mutilating children who might grow up to be gay.
Keep an opportunity for selective high value immigration. Dump sanctuary cities and open borders.
Keep helping the homeless find jobs and a place to live. Dump camping in cities, shitting in the streets and allowing open drug use.
Keep a concern for due process in criminal justice. Dump letting shoplifters and other petty thieves off the hook and releasing predators back on the streets without bail to kill and maim again.
Do all of the above and they might find their way back to power.
These are all positive steps, but we also need to proactively encourage men and women to spend more time together, which is the single best way to counteract the cheap cliches that get bandied about. If you trust the online conversation, there are only hateful lesbians and gold diggers on one side, and predators and idiots on the other. And that's pure bullshit. This doesn't mean we turn everything co-ed, but we desperately need to offer a chance where men and woman can approach each other with curiosity, good humor and warmth. We need to complicate the picture we have of each other, and maybe we'll be less inclined to believe that life is so zero sum.
What in my comment made you think I'd force anyone who's scared to do anything? It's vital that we FIND spaces where men and women feel safe to interact, and build something together. It's so frustrating that we automatically assume the worst of a comment, but I get it. I understand all the ways that trust has been eroded, but that can't be the end of the discussion, because we're still sharing the same planet, and the only way out of this is together. Someone wants to opt out of that? Fine. But anyone who's open to it, should be encouraged. That's all.
I mean everything already is co-ed, basically. Even the military. Outside of bathrooms and locker rooms are there any public places left where men and women aren’t constantly mingling? I’m just not sure what you’re getting at here.
I'm seeing lip service. What I'm not seeing is trying to understand male social dynamics to understand where they're coming up short. Dems lost because men hate scolds, and they became the scold. We lost because Kamala decided to ignore men that aren't Black; not just tried but couldn't get to, but actually ignored. No one likes to be ignored.
Yeah I think you’re coming at this way too wonky. Men aren’t looking to be pandered to with the Democrats’ signature “a government program for every interest group” approach to coalition building. We’re not an interest group, we’re half the population.
The problem is cultural. It’s not how Democrats talk about men (or not just that), it’s how they talk about *everything*. Democratic Party discourse is extremely feminized, and that makes it off putting for most men in the same way that Trump and MAGA’s testosterone-fueled bombast is off-putting for women.
I've known Senator Gallego for about a dozen years now. I'll always remember election night in 2016, when he let me bum a cigarette off of him when it was clear that I had lost my race, and we had a great 1-on-1 conversation (probably 2 hours after my profile picture was taken).
I'll also never forget the number of progressive women that were so excited at the specter of his sexual philandering and potential previous (i.e. 5 years previous) infidelity coming to light, because they would have rather had Kari Lake as a US Senator than a man who didn't kiss the ring of social progressivism.
They can give lip service to Men's isues, but will the party of angry nihilistic queer-palestine-sex-change-for-children-vax-worship actually allow them to do real moderation and common sense? I hope not.
Part of our Populist success is based on the democrat's batshit crazy policies and insane rhetoric.

Ok, I'll mark you down on the "could give a flying f about men" side.
Enjoy your continued losing, Dems!

Wow, expect much?
Linda: Yeah, probably too much.

So if women don't feel safe?

tldr;
Girls didn't like me in HS.
For the men on here:
Do you want a political party that speaks to men's issues specifically?
Is the main problem Democrats have cultural or policy-related?
Zaid. Trust me. They do not talk to African-American men. They were an after thought too.
Liberal women might try a “BJs for votes” campaign. Otherwise the guys are not interested.
