Lmao, look at these insane comments. The logical endpoint of enlightened centrism. You need to spin this to be about how progressives enabled this through DEI if you want these people back on board.

Fraud is a huge problem that cuts across all groups. In this case it looks like some new arrivals from Somalia are taking advantage of our very generous welfare system.

A decent president would acknowledge the problem, install safeguards to prevent it, and apply the safeguards to all regardless of affiliation.

But Trump is not a decent president so he takes the easy way out and the GOP loses voters in the process.

This is primarily a Minnesota problem, but the GOP's effort to shed light on it have met with furious resistance. Because Trump.

Heads should roll over this fiasco but they won't. Because Trump.

Should Democrats regain the House in '26, they will do everything in their power to thwart every single Trump initiative, no matter how sensible. Because Trump.

Yeah, Trump's a dick, but Democrats are stubborn and foolish for opposing literally everything he says or does.

He is wrong and this author is wrong. Trump is expressing thoughts and impatience about illegals and the damage they do to the country he is working hard to make great. Ethnicity is not the focus and all conservatives want in the party is good people. Good people don’t get offended by criticism. If whites are called names for corruption, drugs, murder, etc- does the white race get offended. This idea is nonsense and media should reject it, not accept or promote it.

Actually the author is dead on target. People will put up with a lot if you're willing to make their situations better. Corruption and fraud are rampant in this country (not least of all in DC and in the White House itself), but somehow we single out this case with the Somalians? Please. It's red meat. Go look up the statistics on Somalians. Virtually all of them are here legally and many of them were born here, even if, like immigrants that came before them, they live in a tight community and have not assimilated. So this is not an "illegals" problem.

If Trump had done even what he did during his first term, which was make mild efforts towards improving the situation for Americans as a whole (regardless of particular labels), he could be forgiven a lot. But he's not.

In fact, I'd argue that he's ratcheted up the "offensiveness" to rally a certain kind of person on the Right to avoid having to confront the fact that he's failing miserably otherwise.

No, Trump is cleaning house from the criminals Biden let in during his 4 years. Honesty is critical to understanding issues. The law was not enforced and is now being enforced. No prior President ever faced this serious an illegal immigration crisis and I believe you know that, you just can’t accept it.

That’s a fantasy. It’s not what’s really happening.

Hey Zaid, you are likely unaware of the extensive coverage of the Minnesota / Somali / Tim Walz fraud scandal at powerlineblog, primarily by Scott Johnson and Bill Glahn. They’ve been all over the story for many years (maybe last 4 years?), without anyone from MSM picking it up. I suggest you go to that site and read their current and archived stories? The fraud perpetrated by Somalis and their enablers has cost taxpayers roughly $10 billion. Nearly 100 people have already been federally charged, with dozens pleading guilty.

All that said, I’m for treating people as individuals. I count as good friends a couple of Somali’s that I play basketball 2x per week with. They are good men and here pursuing their own American Dream (they are male nurses) who left their Minnesota homes to come west. So, like with any group of people, there will be good and bad and it’s wrong to stereotype.

There’s likely a lot of fraud out there, and this getting traction now may be about a new, coming ‘welfare reform’ discussion / legislation in 2026. In past decades (1990’s), we saw legacy media ramp up stories on ‘welfare queens’ to grab the public’s attention, which then led to welfare reform legislation under Clinton. That’s probably what is going on here. To tie this back to D’s former VP pick also serves a political aim.

This is such a boring story. It's been told to death, it's like running to the local news every time you run into traffic at 4:00 pm At this point, your only option is put up with it for the sake of ideological agenda.

As is his habit, Trump spoke impetuously, goaded by impatience. Calling an entire immigrant group “garbage” wasn’t exactly his finest hour.

However, let’s put it in perspective: Joe Biden used exactly the same term to describe all 77 million Americans from every class, age group, and demographic who voted for Trump in 2020, which the mass media covered for about thirty seconds before letting it drop.

Wherever they go, migrants carry their habits with them, good and bad. When a few thousand Germans settled Texas in the 1830s and 40s, they brought ingrained habits of thrift, hard work, and honesty, and in just a few years managed to turn a hostile wilderness into a functioning, sustainable society. It was said of these Germans that "wherever they went, there was prosperity." People do not say this about Somalis.

I'm sorry one Somali guy is sore at Trump, but by any reasonable metric, his people are a problem. They are a problem because they have many, many bad habits, and are either unaware of this or just don’t give a shit. Their home nation ranks dead last in traditional measures of human success pretty much every year. And now they’ve taken the shitshow on the road. Oh joy.

The $8 billion, with a B, Somalis scammed from their Minnesota hosts is equivalent to about $100,000 for every Somali resident of that state. The actual figures may be much higher. There hasn't exactly been an outpouring of remorse for this betrayal, either.

Maybe it’s the inbreeding, because centuries of it have forged a backward, ultra-tribal, flamboyantly ignorant culture completely incompatible with Western norms. Wherever Somalis settle in large numbers, they replicate their homeland, complete with rivalries and feuds and criminal ways. This is a culture that regards outsiders as marks if not actual enemies. Our magic dirt has not miraculously transformed them into model citizens.

Trump has no filters, and doesn’t care how it lands, so he says what he thinks at the moment. But he’s just saying out loud what millions of others are already thinking, including lots of brown and black people, who, contrary to leftist dogma, do not all think in lockstep. Many of these folks are VERY unhappy about the immigration fiasco, and understand that it was absolutely the doing of Democrats.

If you want proof, just ask a LEGAL immigrant sometime how he or she feels about ten million, minimum, low-skilled migrants from the third-world jumping the turnstile and being rewarded with deluxe treatment for it, all on the taxpayer dime.

Even those of us who voted for Trump are tired of his habit of making unforced errors. But the Democrat Party is still a toxic brand, and deservedly so. Yeah, Democrats will probably win in ‘26. But since they are utterly incapable of learning or changing, they will blow whatever political capital they earn chasing stupid fringe obsessions. And if the Party is dumb enough to run Newsom or Walz or, god forbid, Harris in ‘28, it’s almost certain to get yet another smackdown.
