Yup. I used to work for what is now Lockheed-Martin (my first job out of college during the depths of the Cold War), and would prefer that antiwar types not kill me or even its CEO. I also used to work for a few other companies that have significant groups of people that don't like them, particularly Google, which bought Fitbit when I was there (otherwise, I avoided Google as I don't like advertising-based revenue models, even though Google HQ is only a long walk or short bike-ride from my house).

The shooting of the United Health CEO is not just murder, but terrorism, as it's politically motivated murder intended to make a political statement. Whether one agrees with the political statement or not is irrelevant to it being a crime, and a very bad precedent.

“The way out of this moral morass is not through violence but through democratic action — deliberation, protest, elections, and legislation.” This is so true but the reason some people are giddy about this murder is that the Healthcare industry has funneled its parasitic profits into buying politicians of both parties. If peaceful democratic measures are off the table because of an ethically compromised political class it only raises the chance of vigilante violence against the elites they are trying to protect.

"Celebrating Death has a long history in America. It's time to focus instead on promoting life."

Not a bad article, but with that leade I'm left disappointed that the subject wasn't abortion, euthanasia, antinatalism, suicides, overdoses, or gang violence. Yes, political assassinations and domestic terrorism are unequivocally bad and ought to be condemned by everyone... But as an example of our modern culture of Death, this remains a mere statistical blip against a crowded field of the dead we ignore or embrace every day. It blends into the background noise. Someone almost certainly was gunned down in the street the day before and someone probably was the day after too, but I doubt I will ever hear their names. Of all the people to suffer a wrongful death that day, that week, that month, that year... should I really care more, one way or the other, about this man simply because he was a healthcare exec?

I’ve certainly addressed those topics in other articles. But fair points.

Yes their power over life and death does liken them to dictators or mob bosses.

Consider that mainstream media has avoided saying this crime might point to a bigger problem.

Consider also that NYPD has mobilized in a way they never would if the victim was you or me.

If you had anyone you cared about or loved in your life I would ask you to pause and rethink your words, but I know for a fact that you don’t. I don’t believe you even care about yourself.

This “insurance ceo” was murdered by a subhuman piece of filth who clearly did not understand why or how or when everything went to shit for medical insurance and the medical establishment in America. He took his rage out on a man who was experiencing an ordinary day. A man who couldn’t have imagined that he would never see the faces of his wife and kids again. And like a true cowardly, worthless piece of trash the murderous animal shot him in the back. Not even giving his victim a chance to look in the eyes of his killer.

The fact that you cannot understand or comprehend the heinousness of what occurred is because you are a coward at your core. Afraid of everything. A permanent victim who blames the world for their plight. So for you the death of this “insurance ceo” was somehow vindication for you being a worthless human being who the “man” has held back.

I’m here to tell you that you are a worthless human being on your own merits. You held your destiny in your hands and you threw it in the trash.

The reaction to this crime is disgusting, stupid and so pathetically short sided.

Unfortunately in today's society, in virtually every popular art, the gun/ violence is celebrated as the principal engine of change.

If they kill your dog you can murder a whole towns worth of individuals and have a whole theater cheering. In music it's who's tougher and what depravity someone is willing to commit that dominates our headphones.

Little wonder that this bankrupt way of thinking gives us prison justice to those charged/convicted of ghastly offenses. What matters of their life they are evil, so death upon them and to cheers for it!

It's all so depressing the man had a family. His children now have video of him being ambushed and shot in the back for all of time. The last seconds of their fathers life a moment of horror being gleefully being celebrated by an embarrassingly amount of fellow citizens.

Nothing will change for it, and worst if it did then it'd only validate this behavior. The path that would leave to would be utter and complete ruin.

Austin Powers, a parodic film, has the only realistic depiction of what happens when the hero kills a nameless henchman.

I'd have a lot more tolerance for the gallows humor and open cheering if it didn't come from the same people who coined "stochastic terrorism" to claim criticism put them in actual danger. Not to mention, do they really want to open the door to political violence when the other side has all of the guns?
