When I saw this, it was an instant join (well... free tier! Money's a little tight for new subscriptions right now). Over the past few years I've come to recognize you as a voice I can trust to give a well-reasoned opinion with thought put behind it, not just another outlet for partisan biases. Isaac Saul also does it pretty well, but his Twitter doesn't have quite as many cuisine hot takes...
Hope it goes far and that I can up my tier eventually!
While I applaud your intent, please consider a different name for your publication. The term “saga” tends to have a negative connotation and seems to projects pessimism. While I understand that is not the actual definition of the word, it still reminds one of a long 1930’s movie of a poor family making their way thru the dust storms of the Midwest. Maybe a title like American Journey or some other more optimistic imagery would better serve your mission.
If your smears of Matt Taibbi are any indication of where in the polarized mediaverse your independence looks for readers, it needs to be pointed out that radical centrist both-sidesism is also a pole.
I found this substack by following a Free Press link. I am one of the many politically homeless, disagreeing with the tribal mentality of both the D's and the R's. I have read much of your work at different outlets over the years. I suspect I disagree with most of your political views. However, I find your work to be honest and to make valid points. I like the challenge to my thoughts as it helps me clarify my own positions in my mind. Good luck with the new project!!
Way to go Zaid, so excited for this!
Love your reporting and insight!
Congrats on this new chapter, Zaid!
hope you bring some interesting reads!
