"Immigration enforcement based on sanctioning employers who engage in illegal hiring and practices"

I do not understand why the "stealing our jobs" people do not start at the source. "Stealing a job" sounds like a guy taking someone's Wal-Mart vest and saying "this is my job now".

It's hard to say "deport the criminals" when Stephen Miller is one defining what a "criminal" is. These are people who are terminally online and have brought their edgelord stupidity into the real world. The internet is a fine place to visit, but a terrible place to live.

IMO, Trump is in process of creating leverage for an amnesty deal. A deal that gives amnesty to illegal immigrants who have been here X # of years, shown productivity, can speak English, etc. in exchange for a permanent sealing of the border via Congress. A sealing that cannot be easily undone by future Executives without some kind of painful, financial “tariff”.

Only by creating this kind of mass immigration ‘angst’ can political conditions be ripe for this kind of deal.

You create Ying, and then Yang is possible.

If Trump could pull this off (and he’s the only POTUS in my lifetime who I think could), it would seal for him a positive legacy.

As for Gallup polls, not sure how much credibility I lend to those. And I may be speaking for a good portion of MAGA when saying so. My read is that the overwhelming portion of all Americans are approving of deportation of new, unproductive immigrants.

We are $37T in debt now and no longer a dumping ground for the poor. If you think otherwise then you also believe we should just go Imperial and take over the lands they come from, and export our American ‘benefits’ directly.

BTW, there are those in Mexico City that don’t want American tech nomads anymore. Anti-gringo protest occurred this week there:

That poll is hopeful but I'm stuck thinking about the repugnant spectacle of ICE terrorism. For Trump to change course he would have to believe it benefits him. Who's going to tell him he's making a big mistake and should pay attention to the polls?

The same thing happened during Trump's _first_ term. Support for legal immigration increased due to increased support from Republicans.

Zaid, this is brilliant as usual! Trump had an easy fastball over the middle of the plate, but he swung and missed. Part of the problem is having Stephen Miller as his primary immigration adviser. Miller is a despicable human being who simply wants to kick people of color out of the country.

Please. Drop the race card. It’s 2025 now. Illegal immigrants are by and large brown and black. Anyone with a set of eyes knows this. The majority of the country voted for these deportations. You singling out Stephen Miller is sophomoric. Are all us who voted for this also despicable human beings? Are the brown and black American citizens who voted for this also characterized the same?

You do know that Miller was mentored by Pat Buchanan, correct? Notice that Miller is pushing to end temporary protected status for Venezuelans and Nicaraguans but not for Ukrainians. He’s not going after undocumented Irish immigrants in Boston, is he?

I am not one to play the race card, ever. But I have to call it as I see it.

In terms of what people voted for, I think that at least as many people voted against Harris (and Biden’s record) as voted actively for Trump. And what Trump is doing this time is far worse than what he did in his first term.

Appreciate your reply, Seth. I see you are not playing race card. I don’t agree with you but I do respect your opinion. Have good weekend
